Tagline: "South Melbourne, home of even more than Dim Sim"
Yes! South Melbourne is much more than the Dim Dims of course, want prove? Go to Garamerica.
Garamerica is little, Indonesian restaurant tucked on the corner of Clarendon and Dorcas street. (not too far away, from the recently refurbished Clarendon street shopping centre)
The restaurant serves up good and cheap Indonesian food. Classic Indonesian fares such as rawon, soto ayam, ketoprak, rendang, bakso sapi, grilled chicken and fried chicken are readily available for lunch and dinner. They also serve entrees of fried tofu and tempeh. (tempeh: as many of you might know, Gary Mehigan from masterchef Australia used it for his nasi goreng dish)
Me and Ade both ordered the lunch specials (It consist of Rice+Mains+Drinks)
The soto ayam was delicious, classic South East Asian chicken soup dish is nice and light. A squeeze of lemon and a dash of chilli adds tang and spice. Mix well with rice, to give it an authentic touch.
I was pleasantly suprised at the quality of the rendang, slow cooked, the beef was succulent and melt in your mouth. The flavour was robust, I tasted some traditional Indonesian spice at work here. Cant vow that they made the sauce from scratch, but It was pretty close to the real thing.
Food For Thought: Garamerica ONLY accepts cash.
