Coco Rice

Coco Rice

I am myself pleasantly surprised that it took me so long to discover this little Indonesian eatery. Coco rice is a direct reference to its rice (Rice steamed/cooked with coconut milk). "Coconut rice" is also known as nasi uduk in Indonesia and nasi lemak in Malaysia/Singapore.

The rice is of course much much richer, fragrant, has a certain velvety finish.

Coco rice, i.e. the eatery serves mostly bento styles style boxes meal, where simple Indonesian fares, of seasoned Indonesian-style fried chicken, beef empal, fish balado is served in a cute little box, accompanied by fresh salad, shredded egg and of course coconut rice.

I'm a regular there whenever I work in the city and tend to go for the specials now. Most people walk by without even noticing it, but the two 'Mums' that do the cooking make some mouthwatering stuff. The rice isn't quite as strongly flavoured with coconut as it used to be, but is still yummy.
