A1 Cafe

A no frills Hong-Kong style Cafe, serving up decent Hong-kong/Cantonese fare. Service here can be hurried, and if you come in smaller groups forced to eat side by with strangers. None the less food is CHEAP. Big servings of dishes with or on rice are below $10. A1 is sort of famous for serving up "egg-chiffon dishes", which is basically three-quarter cooked eggs "omelette" on a bed of rice. You can decide on the "fillings" of the "omelette", they range from Chinese Roast meats to tofu and vegetables.

Egg Chiffon On rice with Roast Pork

To say the least, I am very disspointed, espcially in the quality of the roast pork, it is not as crisp and savoury as I would love to. The best roast pork in Melbourne that I have tried to date goes to Pacfic House.

This is so-so, nothing spectacular, a little pedestrian to be honest.

Food for thougt: Kings og Kings used to serve, what I reckon to be a better version of Eggs Chiffon on Rice, but it has since closed down.
