IF there is an award for "best food for late night cravings", Stalactites will win it outright. (Supper inn may concur, but that it another story all together)Now, as I am you already know, Stalactites is open 24/7, that is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are especially busy weekend nights, that is the time when throngs of people queue up at the counter for their takeaway Souvlaki. (Try to avoid eating in, unless you have heaps of time, I once waited 2 hours to have food served, gosh)
The Souvlaki in the ESPECIALLY in the wee hours taste amazing, do not get me wrong it taste bloody good during day time as well. but it is extra special when the sun goes down. Without going all out to proclaim it's authenticity, the souvlaki here is one that I am quite familiar with, one that i have come to enjoy and appreciate in my time in Melbourne. The souvlaki comes standard with tzatziki, fresh salad your choice of crispy chicken on lamb and pita bread. This is totally different from the one at George Calombaris's press club, which is a more modern take on the humble souvlaki.
