Baker D. Chirico

It was Easter weekend and what better to get into the festive mood then to get hold of the have one of the best-tasting hot cross buns in Melbourne? One of the best I was told, is at Baker D. Chirico.

I arrived that day, delighted, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. The variety of cake and pastries were breathtaking, scrumptious looking plum and strawberry tarts were delightful. Other treats were lemon tart brulee and vanilla custard cake. There were plenty more, but It will be cruel, to expect me to remember ALL the pastries.

So succumbing to temptation, we had ordered the a vanilla custard cake and strawberry tart, on top of the two hot cross buns.

Vanilla Custard Cake and Strawberry Tart

The vanilla custard cake was pretty spectacular, it reminds me of a very very good "tan ta", but only bigger, much bigger. The custard was outstanding the perfect golden brown crust gave it a nice bite. The strawberry tart was also nothing short of being spectacular. I liked how they manage to balance the flavours together.

Hot Cross Buns

I have only good words for these buns. The buns were great, full stop. The bun has a nice edgy crust, and the perfect looking "crosses". The bun had a strong, flavourful "spice hit", and nice fruity flavours. It was really delicious.

I had the warm hot cross bun with cold velvety butter, it was absolute heaven.

This pastry and bun adventure cost me a grand total of $14, it is not cheap. But considering high quality on display it was pretty good value.

Food for thought: Baker D. Chirico not only sells artisan bread and pastries. It also does lunch offering the occasional pies or sandwiches.
