So for the sake of readers of this blog and the name of good journalism. I'll have to try it.
Mitte is German for middle, it also happens to be name of a historic part of town in Berlin. The mitte in Fitzroy North, is no where in the middle nor is it as historic. Set in a quiet residential area, Mitte Cafe is unassuming and unpretentious, sits about 30 plus people. The kitchen is tiny and the cash register happens to face the other way round.
Among the two of us we ordered the breakkie crumble, chorizo potato omelette and two soy lattes.
Cinnamon poached apple and pear with macadamia crumble & mascarpone ($8.50)The FIRST FEW mouthfuls of the crumble was very nice, everything works together brilliantly. The hint of cinnamon, perfectly poached pear and apple, the nuttiness and mascaporne creates an orgasmic reaction. HOWEVER, when you get to the bottom of the bowl, everything seems too sweet, too heavy and your tummy starts to feel funny.
My advise: SHARE. Have a few mouthfuls each and you will be fine.

Potato and chorizo omelette with fennel chutney ($15)The omelette came with 2 slices of bread (from dench bakery) and fennel chutney. The omlette was topped with fresh cherry tomatoes and basil ( from the collingwood college kitchen garden)
First of all, I have to comment that the bread were amazing, topped with the rich butter, it was fantastic. It is often the simplest thing, that ruffles you, in this case, top notch bread with butter. Superyummylicious. No prizes for guessing where I am heading for my bread supply.
The potato and chorizo omelette was terrific. I never knew that the flavours will combine so well. The spiciness of the Chorizo, the earthiness of the potatoes, sweetness of the chutney really worked so well together. A must try!
Note: I will be back here due soon to try the poached eggs with middle eastern chickpea bake and caesar style poached eggs.
